Following in the footsteps of the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, Lionsgate has optioned another biographical hip-hop project. The studio is developing a big-screen flick about the music and life of Miami rap group 2 Live Crew.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Craig Williams is penning a script based on the memoir Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty City, written by 2 Live Crew founder Luther Campbell (aka Uncle Luke).

The movie, tentatively titled The Book of Luke, will chronicle 2 Live Crew's musical success and Campbell's Supreme Court battle over censorship, freedom of speech and morality regarding the group’s sexually explicit content. In addition to being one of the most influential rap groups in the Miami Bass scene, 2 Live Crew was also the first rap group to have the Parental Advisory sticker on an album (1990’s Banned in the U.S.A.).

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing the film under the Temple Hill banner. Williams recently wrote Pandemonium, a movie about WWE founder Vince McMahon that is being developed at Sony.

Lionsgate's Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, which was directed by Benny Boom, will open in theaters on what would have been the late rapper's 44th birthday (June 16). You can watch a clip from the film here. If you want to cop movie tickets, click this.
