There is just no excuse when it comes to incidents like this. A 7-year-old student of Temple Independent School District was hit by a pickup truck and taken to the hospital after the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign.

The student was getting off the bus with the school bus' stop sign and lights displayed and tried to cross the street. The pickup ran the stop sign as she was crossing the street aroudn 3:50 p.m. on King Arthur Boulevard, according to KWTX. Thankfully, Temple police said the injuries were not life threatening.

The accident is under investigation and the student was taken to Scott and White Hospital.

How many times do officials have to state it. Stop when you see flashing lights and a stop sign when a school bus is stopped. The law is the same whether a stop sign is on the corner or on a school bus. Considering it was National School Bus Safety Week last week and local authorities prioritized fining those who don't heed the stop sign, this is just appalling.

You can be fined up to $1,250 for running the stop sign. Even worse, you could hit an innocent child crossing the street.
