The good news is that a 7-month-old child shot in Temple Thursday is alive. The tough news is that baby's condition has been listed as serious.

Temple Police Department Public Information Officer Ellen Morton announced the infant's condition shortly before 9 AM Friday, but could provide no further details other than to say that the child's 4-year-old sibling, who reportedly shot the baby, has been placed in the care of Child Protective Services.

So far, police have not released any details about the shooting, which occurred in the 300 block of South 25th Street shortly before 2:30 PM Thursday. Police who responded to a woman's 9-1-1 call about the shooting believe the older child accidentally shot the infant, but police have not said how the 4-year-old gained access to a gun.
