Beyoncé not only owned the VMAs last night because of her incredible performance, or because she showed up on the red carpet with Blue Ivy looking like a fairy queen and princess, or because she brought out the mothers of police violence on stage... but also because she just passed Madonna as the artist with the most VMAs ever.

Yep, Queen Bey's royalty was undeniable last night and this accomplishment was really just the icing on the cake. Before Sunday night (Aug. 28), Madonna had 16 Moonmen, while Beyoncé had 20. That all changed last night though, because of a little visual album called Lemonade.

Beyoncé ended up taking home eight awards, including Video of the Year for "Formation" and Best Female Video for "Hold Up." She also swept the technical nominations with "Formation."

Check out her performance below to get a glimpse of one of the many reasons why Bey owned the 2016 VMas.
