A car chase that started in Killeen Tuesday morning ended near Gatesville after the runaway driver lost control and flipped the vehicle.

KWTX's Kathleen Serie reports that the driver of a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero was stopped in Killeen and sped off as the officer on the scene was verifying the man's credentials in a patrol car.

The driver reportedly led pursuing officers into Copperas Cove, where he turned onto FM 116 and began speeding toward Gatesville.

During the pursuit, drugs including marijuana and methamphetamine were reportedly thrown from the vehicle.

As the car was approaching the south side of Gatesville, the driver is said to have veered into a southbound lane toward two Coryell County Sheriff's Department vehicles parked on the roadside. Deputies fired upon the vehicle, but the driver did not stop.

The chase came to an end a mile up the road when the suspect crashed into a fence at 13770 FM 116, where the car flipped and came to a stop upside down.

Serie reports that the driver and a passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Drugs and a gun were reportedly discovered in the vehicle.
