Copperas Cove Alum Robert Griffin III Released from Redskins
Washington Redskins announced this morning that they are releasing Robert Griffin III, a Copperas Cove alum, from their roster. The former NFL No. 2 overall pick and 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year was the face of the Washington franchise for a moment when he appeared to be one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league.
RG III was a household name after winning the Heisman Trophy while playing at Baylor before going for the No. 2 pick in the draft. His emergence in Washington gave life back to the franchise - if even for a short while. RG III set the record for all NFL rookies with a 102.4 passer rating, also throwing for 3,200 yards for 20 touchdowns and running 815 yards.
A torn ACL in his right knee during a playoff game against Seattle may have been the turning point for the franchise QB as he never returned to his rookie form since.
It is unclear what is in the future for the former Bulldawg, but there are some teams potentially looking in his direction.
Here are some clips of Robert Griffin III playing for Copperas Cove back in the day.
