The Lampasas County Sheriff's Department has released dashcam footage appearing to show a deputy punching a teenage suspect repeatedly.

At the 5:46 mark, Jones is seen grabbing Cruce by the neck and forcing him to the ground. Moments later, Jones begins punching Cruce in the head repeatedly.

Our news partner, KWTX, reports that 18-year-old Quinton Cruce of Copperas Cove was stopped in Lampasas around 3:15 on May 25 by police responding to reports of an erratic driver.

The video released Wednesday shows Lampasas County Deputy Logan Jones approach a car driven by Cruce and demand that he exit the vehicle. Cruce and Jones argue, with Cruce insisting that he's not drunk and that Jones has no authority to demand he leave the vehicle or be removed by force.

Around the 3 minute mark, Jones is heard saying he can smell marijuana, at which point he threatens to break a window of the vehicle. He and Cruce continue to argue. Around the 4:15 mark, Jones is heard asking officers if they have spikes to place in front of the vehicle to ensure that Cruce does not drive away.

At the 5:12, a young woman is seen exiting the vehicle as Jones and Cruce continue to argue. Moments later, a male passenger exits the vehicle as well. At the 5:36 mark, Cruce exits the vehicle.

At the 5:46 mark, Jones is seen grabbing Cruce by the neck and forcing him to the ground. Moments later, Jones begins punching Cruce in the head repeatedly. The female passenger then begins recording the encounter. Her footage went viral on social media, and may have prompted authorities to release the dashcam footage.

Deputy Jones has been placed on administrative leave as an outside law enforcement agency conducts an investigation.

Cruce was charged with resisting arrest, assault of a public servant, driving while intoxicated, and interfering with public duties.

The male passenger - 18-year-old Gage Blackwell - was arrested for assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, interfering with public duties, and consuming alcohol as a minor.

The 17-year-old female passenger was not charged.
