f there's one thing every N.W.A fan knows it's that the famed hip-hop group was proud to represent their hood. Their classic 1988 debut album, Straight Outta Compton, illustrated a world that taught them how to survive. To celebrate the release of the film Straight Outta Compton, former N.W.A members Dr. Dre and Ice Cube explain the importance of representing their roots on their influential album of the same name for Beats by Dre.

“They were a lot of people there that were not even proud to say they were from Compton,” said Dre about the group’s decision to title their album Straight Outta Compton. Cube adds, “[The late Eazy-E] was adamant to put Compton on the map.”

The five men in black did just that with their powerful album, which featured the anti-police brutality song, "F--- the Police" and the anthemic, "Express Yourself."

“We wanted to come out to make a statement and make everybody paid attention to what we have to say," Dre shared.

"This probably one of the reason why we decided to call the record Straight Outta Compton," he added. "So we can show where we are coming from, that we are proud of where we are coming from and that everybody else that's in our area can be proud of it also."

Dre and Cube make it very clear to never forget where you come from, a motto that everyone should live by.  Putting on for your city is a no-brainer and you can showcase your hometown pride by heading over to StraightOuttaSomewhere.com to create your very own "Straight Outta" meme.

If you rep New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston or somewhere else in the world, this is your time to showcase your roots. And the best part is you can share your photo on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #StraightOutta so everyone else can know where you represent too.

The N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton opens in theaters Friday (Aug. 14).
