The McLennan County Sheriff's office and bomb squad identified and disabled an improvised explosive device (IED) under a bridge near Rosebud on Tuesday night, reported KCEN.

Rosebud is about 25 minutes from Temple and its surrounding cities.

Falls County Constable Richard Aleman was alerted when two boys hunting for rabbits late last night discovered suspicious items under the bridge near FM 1963. one of the boy contacted his father - a former military man - who in turn contacted the local fire department.

After a bomb squad and ATF agent arrived, x-rays of three suspicious devices showed up, including a plastic bottle wrapped in duct tap with a fuse-type detonator. Inside the bottle were shotgun shells and an unidentified liquid, suggesting the explosive was intended to blow shrapnel.

Officials disabled the IED by spraying it with a "water cannon".

Sheriff Parnell McNamara said the packages were most definitely dangerous.

"Someone had made this to create lots of damage and harm," said McNamara.
