On Tuesday night the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont caught fire, killing 67 dogs and injuring nearly a dozen more at the animal shelter.

Beaumont police said the fire appeared to have started in the laundry area - specifically the dryer. Staffers and volunteers from the animal shelter assisted firefighters in attempts to help save the animals. Reports indicate that 11 dogs were saved (and under veterinary care) and that no cats were harmed.

There has been overwhelming support from the community. So much in fact, that the organization said they no longer needed food donations. Most of the cats were placed in foster care and the 11 dogs will find foster homes after being cleared from the hospital.

For all those who have offered to foster, please know that while we have fosters for all the cats, the 11 surviving dogs...
