Temple PD to Give Out Slurpees for Kids Caught Doing The Right Thing

Temple police will be issuing "tickets" for free 7-Eleven Slurpees to kids caught in the act of good citizenship as part of Operation Chill.

Each summer, Temple PD joins police departments across the nation in ticketing children spotted helping other members of the community, helping deter crime, being a positive influence for others, wearing safety equipment when riding bikes or skating, and other examples of doing good.

These tickets can be redeemed for a small Slurpee at any 7-Eleven location.

Operation Chill was developed by 7-Eleven Inc. to reward and encourage good behavior during summer months when instances of loitering, shoplifting, and graffiti increase and to provide an opportunity for law enforcement officers to interact in a positive way with youth.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Temple PD Chief Floyd O. Mitchell said, "This program is an excellent way for members of our police department to interact and engage in dialogue with members of the community in a non-threatening, non law-enforcement manner.”

2016 marks the 21st anniversary of Operation Chill. Since 1995, more than 15 million tickets have been distributed by law enforcement agencies across the United States.
