Uber and Lyft are back in the area!

In December 2015, the Austin City Council passed an ordinance requiring companies like Uber and Lyft have drivers perform fingerprint background checks.

Both companies opposed the vote and were unsuccessful in getting it overturned. So they both stopped services in Austin.

Thanks to a new bill signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott earlier this week, Uber and Lyft are back and will begin operations in Austin beginning Monday.

"In Austin, Texas we are going to override burdensome, wrongheaded regulatory barriers that disrupt the free enterprise system upon which Texas  has been based and upon which has elevated Texas to be the number 1 state in the entire country for doing business"
