Today, Sept. 24, is the birthday of California's own Kreayshawn, who now turns 29.

Born Natassia Gail Zolot to Elka Zolot, who toured as a member of garage punk band The Trashwomen throughout most of the 1990s, music was a part of Kreay's life from day one. After a rocky high school career that saw her get expelled at one point, Kreayshawn dropped out and eventually got herself a GED. That was around the same time she met V-Nasty, with whom she'd form the White Girl Mob a few years later.

After securing her GED, Kreay got into video editing and helped create music videos for the likes of folks fellow Bay Area artist, Lil B and more. It was around this time period that Kreay seriously got into rap. She dropped off her first mixtape, Kittys x Choppas, in June 2010, but she'd experience her nearly immediate breakout about a year later.

In May 2011, Kreay unloaded "Gucci Gucci," a song and accompanying video that's thus far proven to be the defining song of her career. With a catchy hook shooting down all-powerful brand names and a healthy dose of irony, "Gucci Gucci" quickly went viral and was eventually certified gold. The track ultimately earned her a major record deal with Columbia Records.

In September 2012, Kreay dropped off her debut album, Somethin' 'Bout Kreay, an LP that included features from the likes of 2 Chainz, Kid Cudi and more. Kreay hasn't dropped a new project since, as she's focused more on other creative outlets like designing jewelry, working as a DJ and podcasting. In 2014, she launched her Lost in Thot podcast.

While Kreay doesn't do much rapping these days, she remains a creative force to be reckoned with.

Happy Birthday, Kreayshawn!
