VH1 is bringing back one of TV's longest-running game shows, but this time with a hip-hop twist and executive production by Ice Cube.

The Hollywood Reporter reports the classic show, Hollywood Squares, will be transformed to Hip Hop Squares, picking up at least 20 episodes. The new game show will be the latest incarnation of the game show Hollywood Squares that was originally created by Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley. The show continued with different hosts from 1966-2004.

Slated to air sometime this fall, the hip-hop take on the show will feature celebrity contestants showcasing their hip-hop and pop culture knowledge. The game will feature the biggest names in hip-hop, comedy and entertainment. Ice Cube and his production company, Cube Vision, is set to executive produce the series in conjunction with Jeff Kwatinetz’s The Firm, Jesse Collins Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution.

Cube spoke about the new venture, saying he was quick to jump onboard with the project.

"Hip Hop Squares is going to be fun and spontaneous; unlike typical game shows, viewers should never know what’s going to happen next," he said, adding he was eager to sign on as a producer. "When VH1 asked us to join the producing team, we jumped aboard as we have had success with VH1, and we love their team, excitement and commitment to the show."

VH1 and Logo president Chris McCarthy said he was happy to have Cube involved.

"Ice Cube is one of the most prolific figures in hip-hop history and American culture at large. We are thrilled to partner with him and CBS Distribution to reinvent one of America's most iconic game shows with Hip Hop Squares.”
