Jay-Z Recasts ‘Friends’ in New “Moonlight” Video

JAY-Z's weekly video streak continues as he drops another visual for a song off his new album, 4:44. This week Hov chooses to give life to the track, "Moonlight."

The sitcom-style video is directed by Alan Yang and parodies the hit show, Friends, with an all-Black cast of talented young actors playing the roles of the traditional characters, including Issa Rae as Rachel, Lil Rel Howery as Joey, Lakeith Stanfield as Chandler, Jerrod Carmichael as Ross, Tessa Thompson as Monica and Tiffany Haddish as Phoebe.

The group recreates the fountain scene from the sitcom's intro, with Whodini's "Friends" playing instead of the original music from the show.

Things get a little more serious when Rae and Carmichael venture into a park where they reflect on the moon and stars.

It is clear that Jay wants the 4:44 project to be visualized as well as heard. He has put out six videos already and surely plans on putting out a visual for every song on the album at this point.

Hov has dropped a video every week since his album came out last month, including previously released visuals for “The Story of O.J.,” “4:44,” “Bam” featuring Damian Marley, “Kill Jay Z” and "Adnis" starring Mahershala Ali and Danny Glover.

Last week, he made the 4:44 bonus cuts, “Adnis,” “Blue’s Freestyle/We Family” and “MaNyfaCedGod,” available for streaming on Tidal.
