Killeen Man Charged After Allegedly Shooting at Police
A Killeen man faces a serious charge after allegedly firing a weapon at police.
According to Killeen PD Spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Cavalry Drive shortly after 8:20 PM on Monday, March 5.
While the officers were en route, several people called 911 to report men with "laser guns" in the area. When officers arrived, 44-year-old Kelvin Javar Jones reportedly shot at them. The officers returned fire, and Jones fled.
Jones was located in the backyard of a home on Loyal Lane a short time later, taken to the Killeen City Jail, and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant - a first degree felony.
Jail records indicate Jones was booked into the Bell County Jail on Wednesday, March 7. He remained in the jail Thursday in lieu of $500,000 bond.
Two other men were arrested at the scene on unrelated charges, according to Miramontez. She did not provide details concerning those arrests.
