Rihanna's Fenty Puma sneaker line was the hottest collection in the marketplace in 2016. So it’s only right that Ri-Ri gets honored for her creativity in the world of footwear.

Rihanna received the Shoe of the Year at the 2016 Footwear News Achievement Awards. The annual event, dubbed the “Shoe Oscars,” was held in New York on Tuesday night (Nov. 29). The 28-year-old style maverick was honored for her success with the Fenty Puma Creeper.

“I didn’t expect people to love it the way I do, and the way they’ve supported it means so much to me,” said Rihanna about her shoe during her acceptance speech. “[I'm] proud to be a woman and proud to be a young woman from Barbados, especially.”

Rihanna is the first woman to win the Shoe of the Year trophy. Kanye West nabbed the honor for the Yeezy Boost 350 in 2015, and Stan Smith won for his always-classic Adidas Stan Smith sneaker in 2014.

Rihanna also saluted her fans for their support and thank them for their inspiration. “All the Creeper fans and all the kids in the street who inspire me by doing things their own way," she said.
