Killeen will soon say goodbye to what was once a ubiquitous anchor store across America when its Sears location closes early next year.

According to a news release from Sears Holdings, the Sears store at the Killeen Mall is one of 80 Sears and Kmart locations across the United States set to shut their doors for good. Killeen's Sears will close in late March.

The Sears at the Richland Mall in Waco will close at the same time.

Liquidation at both stores could begin as early as two weeks from today.

And in case you're wondering, the Hometown Sears store on Marlandwood Drive will not be closing, as it is not owned by Sears Holdings.

The company filed for bankruptcy back in October and had hoped for a bid by a deadline of 3 PM today. A bid of $4.4 billion came at the last minute from chairman Eddie Lampert via his hedge fund, ESL Investments. While the bid could, theoretically, stave off liquidation, it will need to be approved in early January. CNBC reports that Lampert's proposal could face pushback from unsecured creditors who believe there may be claims against transactions under Lampert's leadership.
