South Kegley Road in Temple is once again closed to through traffic due to deterioration of the roadway.

The City of Temple issued the following media release Tuesday afternoon:

The bridge at the 2300 block of South Kegley Road (where Bird Creek crosses Kegley Road, approximately half a mile north of the intersection of Charter Oaks and Kegley) is closed to thru traffic until further notice.

“Due to recent rains, road conditions at this location have deteriorated significantly and contributed to subgrade failure,” states director of communications Shannon Gowan.

“City crews are currently assessing current roadway conditions to determine exactly what repairs are needed to make the road safe and passable for travelers.”

Until repairs are made, travelers are advised to seek alternate routes or follow signage for detours. With forecasted rains this week, city staff estimates that repairs will not begin until the week of June 6th. Kegley will be open from the north end (Adams Ave.) to allow access for homeowners only.

The announcement came almost two weeks after another portion of South Kegley reopened following repairs to a hole caused by a mix of recent rains and deterioration of the roadway.
