An ambulance stolen from an Austin hospital was chased through several cities before coming to a stop behind the Killeen Police Department Saturday morning.
The vehicle was reported stolen from Austin’s University Medical Center Brackenridge shortly before 10 AM.
reports that the emergency responders assigned to the ambulance were taking a patient into the medical center when they received word that the vehicle was gone. It left Austin shortly after 10 AM traveling north along Highway 183.
At 11:44 AM, the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services posted a message to Twitter indicating that the chase had ended and the ambulance was recovered.
KXXV-TV reports that the ambulance came to a stop behind the Killeen Police Department headquarters at 402 North 2nd Street.
No injuries have been reported. The driver is expected to undergo a mental evaluation. Police have not released the suspect’s name or motive for stealing the vehicle.
