Summit Recreation Center is partnering with the Scott and White Marrow Donor Program to host a donor registration drive. Adults ages 18 to 44 are encouraged to come in on Monday, August 18, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., or between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., or on Tuesday, August 19, between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., or between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Marrow donations are essential for patients affected by leukemia, sickle cell anemia, and other diseases of the blood. For these patients to receive the treatments they need, hospitals are dependent on healthy volunteers to act as donors.

Scott and White will be collecting cheek swab samples, as well as answering questions about the marrow donor registry.

Joining the registry is simple, and provides the opportunity to save the life of someone affected by blood cancer or another disease.

For more information about the drive, contact Joy Wright of the Scott and White Marrow Donor Program at jewright@sw.org or by calling 254-724-0602.
