Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away Saturday at the age of 79.

The San Antonio Express News reports that Scalia died of natural causes at the Cibolo Creek Ranch luxury resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. His body was discovered after he didn't show up for breakfast.

Scalia arrived at the ranch Friday to attend a private party. The FBI, Presidio County County sheriff, and US Marshall Service are investigating Scalia's death, and there are no reports of evidence suggesting foul play.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement calling Scalia a “man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

Abbott said Scalia was a “solid rock” fiercely loyal to the Constitution and expressed hope that the Justice's successor would follow Scalia's example.

Scalia was nominated to the US Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan and was the longest serving justice.

Scalia's passing comes less than a month before the SCOTUS is expected to rule whether laws restricting abortion, particularly those in Texas, are serve any government interest promoting health. The Court will also rule on a controversial executive order from President Barrack Obama that would grant quasi-legal status and work permits for nearly five million people who entered the United States illegally as children or have children who are American citizens under the current interpretation of the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment..

Scalia was a staunch opponent of abortion and vocal critic of Obama's stance on immigration.
