Several families are receiving Red Cross assistance after their homes were gutted by a fire at a Temple apartment complex Sunday.

Temple Fire and Rescue responded to a call from the Wayman Manor Apartments at 1811 East Avenue K. at 10:36 AM. By 10:43 AM, the call had been upgraded to a three alarm situation, with all Temple units at the scene along with volunteers from Morgan’s Point and Troy. Temple Police were also going door to door to alert and evacuate residents.

The fire was under control by 11:43 AM. Eight of sixteen apartments received significant fire, heat, and smoke damage, but a fire wall prevented flames from spreading throughout the entire complex.

One resident was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for treatment of a lacerated foot. Another resident refused an offer to be transported to the hospital for difficulty breathing. No other injuries were reported.
