A few days ago, a possible terror threat around election day was detected by federal and state authorities.  Texas had been mentioned as a possible target along with Virginia and New York. As reported in the Chronicle, Governor Abbott said he was working with the Texas Department of Public Safety to monitor the situation.

In the statement released by the Governor's office, Abbott said:

My office is working with law enforcement officials and we are continuing to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Texans should go about their daily lives as usual, but remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement. The State of Texas will continue to do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

Friends, like you I have absolutely no idea where this kind of chatter is coming from. The federal government monitors communications far more sophisticatedly then I ever could and ever would.  But we are just as much in this fight against terror as any Military or surveillance personnel.

First of all, if you hear of any threats whatsoever, no matter how seemingly trivial or marginal, you must report it. The federal governments Department of Homeland Security  has a procedure on its website for submitting information. Click here to report.

The FBI also has an online reporting system. You can report any kinds of crimes and threats including potential domestic terror leads.  The FBI can be reached online here.

If you are privy to a threat which exists abroad, the CIA also has a tip submission process on its website.

Here in Texas, the Department of Public Safety has its own "iWatchTX" program for reporting suspicious activity. Go here to access.

Of course, there's always your local authorities and 911 in case of an emergency. You need not be afraid to act.
