It's almost that time again! Texas back-to-school shoppers will be exempt from sales tax on select items from Aug. 10 to Aug. 12.

Over that second weekend of August, some items like clothing, backpacks, and school supplies will be exempt from sales tax. The exemption applies to individual items under $100, not your total purchase. So, if you buy two pair of $60 jeans, each pair is exempt.

Items place on layaway during the tax free holiday are also covered. However, rainchecks issued during the holiday will not be covered beyond the holiday. (The exemption will cover items you already have rainchecked if they're purchased during the holiday, just not after.)
