Travis Scott to Launch Astroworld Festival in Houston

Travis Scott named his new album Astroworld after Houston's shuttered Six Flags, and in November, he plans to revive the theme park, at least in spirit. Scott announced Friday (Aug. 10) that he will host an Astroworld Festival at Houston's NRG Park on Nov. 17.

"TOLD THE DOGS I'D BRING IT BACK," Scott wrote in a tweet announcing the one-day show. Scott will headline the festival, but a full lineup has not yet been announced. Not much else is known about the event. Presale codes are available on the fest's website.

La Flame first explained the inspiration for his album in a March 2017 interview with British GQ. Travis grew up in Houston and was 13 years old when the local Six Flags park closed.

"They tore down AstroWorld to build more apartment space," he said. "That’s what [the music is] going to sound like, like taking an amusement park away from kids. We want it back. We want the building back. That’s why I’m doing it. It took the fun out of the city.”

In lieu of the park's return, Scott settled for the next best thing. He presumably picked up inspiration when he, Kylie Jenner and their daughter Stormi rented out Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Calif. for the rapper's birthday in April.

Since Astroworld dropped, Scott has pushed a flood of album-branded merchandise, most recently a t-shirt designed by Virgil Abloh. He also shared a music video for "Stop Trying to Be God" featuring Jenner.
