Two teenagers are in the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center after reportedly trying to run over a Temple High School resource officer Monday afternoon.

According to a Temple Police Department press release, a 15-year-old student was suspended and escorted off campus earlier in the day following an assault and threats issued against students and staff.

Around 4:15 PM, that teen went back to the school in a car that had been reported stolen Friday and was being driven by a 16-year-old. After a verbal exchange with the teens near the bus drop-off area, an assistant principal called the officer for assistance.

As the officer approached the car, the driver reportedly drove forward as if he intended to hit the officer.

The officer drew his weapon and told the driver to stop the car. The driver instead put the vehicle in reverse and struck several vehicles, injuring the assistant principal in the process.

The vehicle finally hit a tree and came to a stop.

Both teens were taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and theft of a motor vehicle. Their names have been withheld due to their age.
