The first thing I heard when I moved to Central Texas is that I need to prepare myself for the slow traffic and construction on Highways I 35 and US 190. Well, it looks like US 190 in Killeen will see some relief soon.

After three years of construction it's been announced that the highway's widening project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2016. The original projected date of completion was February of 2015, however separate construction projects that intersects with 190 caused it to be delayed more than a year, according to TxDOT.

The US 190 widening project was initiated in order to accommodate the estimated 110,000 vehicles that travel on the high way every day. The project cost approximately $65 million.

More Construction This Week

East and westbound left lanes of US 190 from W.S. Young Killeen to FM 2410 in Harker Heights will be closed - paving will be done from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Thursday.

The Westbound right lane and shoulder from FM 2410 in Harker Heights to FM 2410 in Belton will also be closed through Thursday as officials collect roadway samples for a potential widening project. If funded, US 190 could be widened to six lanes.
