Killeen police are investigating a fatal shooting at the intersection of Parmer Avenue and 22nd Street early Friday morning.

Police and medics were called to the intersection around 5:45 AM. They were flagged down by a person who directed them to the victim, who'd been shot in the head.

The victim was airlifted to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition before passing away as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 8:15 AM, and his body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for autopsy.

As of Friday afternoon, police were withholding the victim's name pending notification of next of kin.
