Killeen residents were shocked to find white supremacist literature on their doorsteps over the weekend, but an investigation by a local news outlet revealed a bizarre connection to what appears to be a substance abuse recovery service and a dead man.

KCEN-TV reports that fliers including both white nationalist propaganda and anti-drug messages from a group calling themselves the Loyal White Knights and claiming to be affiliated with the KKK were found in zipper storage bags in driveways near Live Oak Ridge Middle School Sunday morning.

Needless to say, people in the neighborhood were disgusted. But what appeared to be an effort by a hate group to sow fear and division seems to be either a bizarre prank or the work of a seriously confused troll. Then again, it could very well be the work of an actual white supremacist whose bungled work demonstrates a lack of organizational supremacy.

KCEN reporters tried calling phone numbers on the fliers. One number routed them to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Another led to a voicemail that was full and not accepting more messages. The latter appeared to be registered to a California man who died last year at age 87.

A website on the fliers also led to a dead end.
