There could be a new option to varsity sports that might rival football.

NBCDFW.com is reporting that the National Federation of High School Associations (FJHS) have partnered up with online gaming provider PlayVS and will begin gaming competitions in high schools throughout the nation.

The group is also discussing esports with the University Interscholastic League (UIL), which oversees high school sports in Texas.

It looks like it'll be similar to basketball in the sense of 5 players on each team, and it seems they'll try to keep the more violent games out of the high school league.

There was a video league in my high school days. Well, o.k. no not really. It was just a bunch of us going down the street to the Y.M.C.A. to play Ms. Pacman at lunch.
