First Fentanyl Murder Charge Now Made In Belton, Texas

Belton, Texas had never had a man in custody for murder due to dealing drugs before the first of April, and in years past a day like today never would have happened at all. Back in September of last year, a new law that had been signed earlier in the summer by Governor Greg Abbott, took effect that would allow prosecutors to seek capital murder charges against anyone that played a part in a lethal overdose of fentanyl.

A drug dealer or distributor does not have to actually sell fentanyl either, they can be charged for murder if they knowingly sold any narcotic that is laced with, or cut with fentanyl. Street drugs are often manipulated with other products to stretch the supply, or deliver the expected high without having to deal a product that is 100% pure.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid drug that is lab made and FDA approved for pain relief. It is 50 times more powerful than heroin, and 100 times stronger than morphine. Illegal labs also produce it as a designer drug, and is considered a top offender in the opioid epidemic of America.

Shane Antwan Dominick has now been charged with capital murder for his alleged role in selling drugs that resulted in the overdose death of 20 year old Richard Willess in Belton in October of last year. Dominick is being held in the Bell County Jail awaiting trial.
