DMX Gets Permission to Perform in Atlanta Under Supervision of Sober Coach
DMX is currently on house arrest, but a Manhattan Federal judge has granted him the ability to travel for work on one condition: he must be accompanied by a sober coach.
As previously reported, X's lawyer, Murray Richman, sent the judge a letter asking for permission to get off his house arrest in order to perform a series of shows in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Los Angeles in August and September. Despite his probation officer's opposition, the request has been granted for the Atlanta show, reports the New York Daily News.
Per the judges mandate, Earl, who was put on house arrest after failing multiple drug tests, following being charged with 14 counts of tax evasion, must be accompanied 24 hours a day by the sober coach, while he is out on tour.
He also must pay for the services out of his own pocket. The rapper and his camp were excited that their request was granted and X will be able earn an income while at the mercy of the courts.
"We're ecstatic about the court's decision giving Mr. Simmons the opportunity to perform and continue his career," X's attorney, Murray Richman said.
X is facing an uphill battle both legally and as far as his drug issues go. He is facing a possible 44-year prison stint if convicted on all 14 tax evasion charges. The Yonkers, N.Y., native pleaded not guilty to the charges last month.
