Today I spent my first Easter away from family, friends and familiar surroundings. Ya know what? I survived.

Our schedules and locations did not match. It happens.

I ate brunch at a well-known restaurant full of people. In the whole place, I think I was the only person by myself at a table. I did not care one bit. That's because the way I see things, I've got it pretty good.

Breakfast buffet with Jalapeño Garlic Cheese Grits? While a Western swing band plays "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." It doesn't get any better than that. ONLY in Central Texas!

There are people working Sunday, people who are making big sacrifices, people who can't be with their loved ones because duty calls. And that's perfectly alright. Eventually, they will reap what they have sown: all good things.

Big floppy hats, new white shoes, a basket full of candy...none of those things have anything to do with Easter Sunday. They're great if you can get them but unnecessary if you can't.

I'm grateful for the renewal of spirit and of season. Appreciative of the sacrifices of others. Regretful of nothing except letting down (slightly) those who miss my face, and that there aren't enough hours in the day to binge-watch.

Easter continues tomorrow as does my media mission to serve the community where I work. It's a job I love and I'll be even more grateful tomorrow than I am today. The happiest of Easter to you and your loved ones wherever and however you spent it.
