Remember just 2 months ago, U.S. Army Private First Class Glendon Oakley "did what he could" to save children in that tragic El Paso shooting.

Well, he was arrested yesterday in Harker Heights KWTX reports.

Oakley, who grew up in Killeen and father was stationed at Fort Hood was arrested on a desertion charge.

According to defense attorney Wade Faulkner, Oakley's fate will be sealed by the chain of command in the Army as he was picked up from Bell County Jail by The Fort Hood Provost's office.

Oakley passed the 30-day deadline of being missing going from AWOL to desertion as a warrant was issued for his arrest.

I'm not an army guy and have no knowledge of military policy, but you got to think they'll give him a break due to his heroic deeds two months ago in El Paso, right?

Faulkner says Oakley could receive a lesser penalty of a mere counseling statement, or he could very well serve jail time or he could receive up to a court-martial or a dishonorable discharge from the U.S.Army which is a bad stain on a soldier's military record.

He was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso and worked as an automated logistics specialist after being deployed from Kuwait earlier this year.

We'll keep you updated.
