This Disgusting Crime is Happening Way Too Much in Texas
I’m tired of this uncomfortable topic not being discussed, it’s happening way too much in Texas and across the country and it needs to stop. While I admit I don’t watch the news anymore I try to stay up on news and information that applies to Texas, and it seems like this crime is popping up all the time. I am talking about teachers, aides, and administration preying on students.
It’s disgusting, horrible, and no student should ever have to worry about someone in a position of power trying to sexually manipulate them. While I have never experienced anything like this myself, it seems like there are headlines from around the state of Texas with stories like this all the time.
There are Amazing Teachers in Texas
More than 90% of all teachers are great and work every day to help students learn and grow into upstanding adults. But it was alarming to see a story from Fox 7 in Austin about teachers charged with sex crimes.
In the story the director of outreach for Parents Defending Education, Erika Sanzi said, “Nearly 9.6% of students are targets of educator sexual misconduct sometime during their school career”.
That was cited from a 2004 report done by the Department of Education.
Talk to Your Kids About This
It’s important for your kids to feel safe to bring things like this to you, if something were to happen. Let’s hope you never have to deal with a situation like this.
Punishment in Texas
An improper relationship between a teacher and student in Texas is a second-degree felony and punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. You would think that would be enough to stop this behavior, but it still seems to happen. Should the laws become even more severe for teachers who try to prey on students in Texas? I think so.
