The attorney representing the businesses, David Sergi of San Marcos, stated that the shops are federally legal hemp businesses that have been unfairly targeted by questionable police tactics. According to Sergi and his associates, the business owner has consistently shown a commitment to transparency and legal compliance. The owner has offered to provide tax records and financial documents to prove the legitimacy of the operation and has expressed willingness to cooperate with authorities.
Sergi, a recognized figure in the Texas hemp industry, emphasized that Sky Rise and ZRD are legitimate retailers selling hemp products following Texas law. He noted that all products have been independently lab-tested and come with certificates of analysis confirming their compliance with legal THC limits.
