Free Killeen Shelter Now Available Overnight as Temperatures Plummet
The City of Killeen released a statement saying that, starting at 8 PM on Monday, December 1, through 9 AM on Tuesday, December 2, the city will be partnering with Friends in Crisis to open a warming center due to the possibility of temperatures dropping drastically tonight. Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing. Anyone needing to use the center is welcome.

Warming Centers Are Open To The Community
Friends in Crisis is located at 412 E. Sprott St. The warming center is open to members of the public who need a warm and safe place to sleep tonight. This includes individuals in the community who are without heat or experiencing any type of power outage. Residents are reminded that the city's policy for opening warming centers is triggered when the temperature or wind chill is forecast to reach 32°F or below.
Where Else Can Residents Go To Stay Warm?
City business hours will remain the same, and any resident needing to warm up during those hours may use public facilities, including libraries, recreation centers, police headquarters, City Hall, and other public buildings. Residents are asked to follow the code of conduct while using these spaces and to keep in mind that, although daytime temperatures will rise above freezing, wind chills may still approach freezing. These locations offer safe and accessible warmth for the community.
