A sweetheart cake (aka wife cake or marriage pie) is a traditional Chinese cake with a thin crust or flaky pastry and it is so delicious filled with winter melon, almond paste, and sesame seeds with spice powder. When I was a little girl the way that we showed each other that we loved each other in the family was by making this particular cake. Allow me to share the recipe with you. Hopefully, you can give this delicious treat to someone you love this Valentine’s Day.

You will first need all-purpose flour and lard. Yes, lard. I know it's fattening but that's what makes the cake so delicious.

Grab yourself some cooking oil and sugar to get a really sweet and flaky treat.
If you can get gao fen from the store, that’s great. Gao fen has been pre-cooked. Winter melon is a must and so good. You can find candied winter melon in Asian markets.
Toasting the sesame seeds briefly on a dry pan makes a difference in flavor, and you do not forget unsweetened coconut milk. Once you mix this all together, put it in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes and enjoy.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.
