Amazing Burgers In Central Texas That Will Make You Drool
There's nothing better than a thick and juicy burger. The most satisfying dish you can order is a hamburger whether you're in a friend's backyard, on a road trip, or in a five-star restaurant. Here are the best places to grab a great burger if you live in Central Texas or you just happen to be driving through to somewhere else.
Galaxy Bar and Grill
Galaxy is the place for you if you’re looking for a burger that tastes out of this world, but you don’t want to travel to a galaxy far, far away (or even to Austin). Galaxy B&G is a Star Wars themed burger joint in Killeen, TX that has some of the best burgers in the solar system. The Phantom Patty is a single patty burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard, and ketchup. If you want something a little more extreme, then you can try the Galactic Madness. That’s two patties, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, and mayo served between two grilled cheese sandwiches. I’m starting to think there must have been a surplus of grilled cheese sandwiches in the area.
Black Meg 43
I initially thought Black Meg 43, located in Killeen, was the name of a movie similar to How Stella Got Her Groove Back. It turns out Black Meg 43 is a veteran owned business serving some of the best hamburgers and hotdogs in Killeen. I really want to highlight an item on Black Meg 43’s menu that is more of a cousin to the hamburger, and that is their Texas Melt. Consisting of grilled onions, jalapenos, Meg sauce, and American cheese served on Texas toast the…hold on one second.
Okay, I’m back. I had to go get one really quick. The Texas Melt is probably one of the most delicious and fulfilling items you can get for under $6. Black Meg 43 is definitely the place to go in Killeen for a burger that will give you the best bang for your buck!
Ma's Place
Just like the saying goes “Don’t judge a book by its cover” the same can be said of restaurants. Don’t judge the taste of the food on the sign outside the building. This quaint little shack may not look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. An unassuming diner in Harker Heights has some of the best burgers you’ll ever have in your life. The simple design and the name' “Ma’s Place” aren’t just some genius levels of marketing. This is as genuine as it gets. Ma is a real Ma. She has five daughters and one son. She managed a local restaurant for 20 years, and she decided to use those years of expertise to open her own restaurant. If you want a real “home cooked” feel to your meal, then Ma’s is the place to go. She treats her customers like family, so each meal is prepared with love. Just watch your manners. I’d hate to see you get sent to bed without dinner!
Applebee's
I know what you are thinking. “Mitch is just being lazy now”! I could also say the same thing about you not just making your own burger instead of paying someone else to make it for you. Here’s the thing though. Is Applebee’s a chain? Yes. Can you find one just about anywhere in the country. Yes. That is what gets it on the list though. I’m a comedian. I travel all over the country, and I do really enjoy exploring all of the different flavors that chefs and cooks across the nation have mastered. I also like reliability, and that is what I know I can count on from Applebee’s. Their menus are standardized. Their food quality is high, and the training of their staff is consistent throughout their franchise. If I get a burger in Killeen today, I can be pretty confident that it’s going to be just as good as the burger I got in Atlanta last week. I like that. Applebee’s is like my buddy, Mike. I don’t call him up all the time, but when I do I know what I’m gonna get. I like dependability.
Be sure to try one of the spots on this list if you’re craving some beef this week. Heck, you should slide into my DMs and invite me out for a slider. I’ve met some of my best friends over burgers and fries. The way I see it, if you like a good quality burger then there’s at least one thing we’ll be able to bond over.
