
Central Texas Drivers Warning: Quit Doing This Right Now
Temple, Texas is where this near miss most recently happened, but I have witnessed far too many close calls in Killeen, Harker Heights, Belton, and Round Rock just to name a few. OK, so we are all very excited for the end of the school year because summer break brings vacations and way less vehicles on the road like school busses, but just because the schools are closed does not mean we can just give up following the rule of law on the roads.

Honestly cannot even begin to count the number of times my children and I have been at a well marked cross walks that literally connect to school property in Temple, and cars just blow right through the crossing with zero regard for the school zone speed limit, or the fact that it is Texas law that you stop for all pedestrians whether they are in a cross walk or not. What is even worse is not being able to count the number of times I attempted to give my, "I am a father of three little kids," death stare to the ignoring driver that I was unsuccessful because the driver was too busy looking at their phone to even know what was happening around them on the road.

You can clearly see in the picture above that my son is trying to cross the street in a well marked crossing lane, and the driver simply did not care about his or anyone else's safety.

School may be getting out for the summer, but schools still have a lot of activity with summer courses and open playgrounds, so no matter what time of year it is: STOP! for anyone, especially children, in a crosswalk or when they are crossing a street.
