Houston, Texas local authorities with the Harris County Sheriff's Office broke up a massive car theft ring thanks to some at home amateur sleuthing, and one very lucky break. However, police departments all over the state of Texas want you to see just how quickly your car or other valuable items like your tailgate can be stolen in just minutes.

Almost every vehicle on the road that was manufactured in the last 25 years have keyless entry, and many even feature a wireless fob (free on board) system that do not even require a physical key to be inserted into the steering column, or other port because of push to start technology. If you recognize all this technology as making it very easy to open and drive your vehicle, well potential car thieves would be in agreement with you.

According to this KHOU article, a recent vehicular crime victim found his ripped off tailgate listed on Facebook Marketplace, and alerted authorities of the stolen property being for sale. After reaching out to the suspect in possession of stolen property, a sting was set up to purchase the missing tailgate.

Not only did the suspect have the tailgate, but they also had dozens of programmable fobs that could easily be synced within 5 to 10 minutes to almost any modern vehicle, and drive off with it.
