Every year, the subject of ending the twice yearly time change comes up and some  politician(s) swear they'll do it. Texas lawmakers may have done it.

House Bill 1393, which would leave Texas on Daylight Saving Time ... DST is summer, in winter it's standard time ...  year round, passed the Texas House of Representatives but it's not law yet.

It still has to get through the Senate and past the Governor who could choose to either veto or ignore it. There's also a federal issue that could stop it.

The movement to stop the twice yearly time change nonsense every year is not new and it's not weak. This could be the year though as POTUS Trump has given his support to keeping DST.

Regardless of the issues caused by switching the clock around twice a year, plans to abandon the practice never come to pass. Even if it does now, it still may not.

Becoming Law Still Doesn't Mean Texas Will Do It

If HB1393 goes the distance, the feds can still screw it up. Apparently, any state can decide to stay on "standard time" year round but Congress has to give permission for a state to stay on Daylight Saving Time. Weird.

The bill's implementation depends on federal action. Under current federal law, states can choose to remain on standard time year-round, but they cannot adopt daylight saving time year-round without approval from Congress. - kxxv

So, if Texas passes this law, Congress would actually have to pass another law, allowing the new law. Politicians, I tell 'ya. This would be cool though, I think. Cross your fingers ...
