Texas Suspect in Dog Shootings Critically Injured After SWAT Response
Two San Antonio, TX dog owners are mourning after their pets were senselessly shot and killed over the weekend. The suspect in these shootings, a 45-year-old man, allegedly attempted suicide as police arrived at his apartment on Wednesday afternoon to serve a search warrant. This led to a SWAT response and the eventual discovery of the injured man.
The tragic events began when a two-year-old husky named Everest was shot outside a neighbor’s home she often visited. “It’s so hard for me to see her go down like that,” said Everest’s owner, who asked to remain anonymous. “She was so sweet. She didn’t do anything to anybody.” Surveillance footage captured a dark SUV driving slowly by the home on West Mariposa, where the passenger fired at the dog before speeding away. Police believe the same suspects shot a four-month-old German Shepherd puppy named Rosie later that night, just a few blocks away on Capitol Avenue.
“You’re here today, and you’re gone tomorrow because I truly love my dog, and I in a million years didn’t think I’m not going to have that chance tomorrow,” said Rosie’s owner. The young pup was shot while resting in her favorite spot behind the family’s fence.
San Antonio police tracked the suspect to an apartment on Wakefield Drive, where they attempted to serve a search warrant. However, as officers approached, a gunshot rang out from inside the apartment. SWAT was called, and a drone was deployed to survey the scene. The suspect was found critically injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was later hospitalized.
The community remains on edge as the investigation continues, but police are confident the primary suspect has been located.
