Man Found Dead in Car Near Mexia Walmart

Mexica police are investigating after a man's body was found inside a car near Walmart Thursday.

KWTX's John Carroll reports that police responded to a call about a gunshot heard near the Walmart Supercenter at 1406 E Milam St.

Police found a 37-year-old man dead behind the wheel of his car, which was located in a field near the shopping center. Officers also found a pistol inside of the man's vehicle.

A witness who reported the gunshot said it came from inside the car. The car was reportedly stopped at a red light and then accelerated and ran off the road.

"The case is only being investigated as a suicide, there are no other indications to take our investigation elsewhere,” Mexia police Chief Brian Bell said Thursday.
