One of the things probably most surprising about native Texas flora and fauna is how incredibly resilient they are in the face of an endlessly scorching sun, and miles upon square miles of wilderness that features nearly countless predators and threats.

Last summer we had friends visit from the Texas of the north, Wisconsin, and the only real reservation my friend's wife had was the prospect of running into a snake because she read that the Lone Star State has more snakes thank any of the other 49 states.

Told her to relax because we live on the edge of a pasture and are constantly combatting field mice penetrating the garage so much that I have been begging for a few legless helpers, and can't find one anywhere. Not to say we do not have snakes, they just seem to have no interest in dining at our place regardless of the smorgasbord of critters that can't get enough of what our rodent Airbnb seems to offer.

Scary Assassin Bugs Are Now Thriving In Texas

Anyway, just like snakes, there are plenty of other critters around your garden that get a bad rap simply because of their worst examples, or terrifying names. Let's be perfectly honest, the name assassin bug ain't doing it any favors.

However, if you do enjoy gardening and want to be rid of other garden pests, the assassin bug is only mildly irritating with their poison, and generally are looking for other bugs to bite instead of people.
