A Temple girl who was shot by her father and abandoned at an emergency room by her mother has been released from the hospital.

The girl suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm and was admitted to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital's ER on Friday, April 1 shortly before 6:20 PM. She was released from the hospital Friday, April 8 and is now in the custody of relatives.

Witnesses reported seeing a woman - now known to be the girl's mother - place the victim in a wheelchair on the night she was shot, roll her into the emergency lobby, then leave. She never returned, and police are currently searching for her.

Authorities have not released the mother's name or a photograph.

The girl told police her father - 44-year-old Quentin Lamont Smith -  shot her in a vehicle somewhere behind the Westgate Park Apartments at 3007 Antelope Trail. Smith was arrested Saturday afternoon and booked into the Bell County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - a second degree felony. As of Friday, April 8, he was till being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.
