A Temple woman passed away and three people were hospitalized after a traffic collision on Old Highway 95 just outside of Little River-Academy Thursday morning.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety media release, the collision occurred a quarter mile north of Little-River Academy at approximately 7:35 AM.

DPS officials say 25-year-old Miranda Ortiz of Temple was driving south in a 2012 Toyota Yaris when she began drifting to the right, off of the roadway. Investigators say she over-corrected to the left, crossing the center stripe of the road and into the path of an oncoming 2010 Jeep Wrangler.

The two vehicles collided, and Ortiz was fatally injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace. An 11-month-old girl in a car seat riding with Ortiz was taken to McLane's Children's Hospital in Temple with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the Jeep - Heather Bales, 37, and Daniel Bales, 41, both of Little River-Academy - were taken to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple with non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS Spokesman David Roberts said in a media release that Ortiz's family had been notified of her passing as of 3:06 PM.
