New Daylight Saving 2024: When Does Texas Spring Forward?
When does Texas spring forward for Daylight Saving Time in 2024?
Texas will spring forward on the shortest day of the year in 2024, which will occur on March 10th. If March 10th is the shortest day of the year in 2024, and the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, then why do people say December 21st, or the first day of winter, is the shortest day of the year?
The first day of winter is often called the shortest day of the year, but for Texas that day actually isn't for almost another 12 weeks later in winter. In fact for 2024, the shortest day of the year in the Lone Star State happens with just 9 days remaining in the quarterly season of winter before the spring solstice at just after 10 PM local time on March 19th, 2024.
This is why Texas with spring forward for Daylight Saving Time on March 10, 2024.
Why does everyone say the first day of winter is the shortest day of the year if it isn't?
Well, some will argue time is just a construct that does not really exist, but the reason people say the first day of winter is the shortest day of the year is because that is when their day will experience the least amount of sunlight in a 24 hour period.
However, if your day only has 23 hours compared to 24 because you skipped one whole hour to begin Daylight Saving Time, then clearly that is the shortest day of the year. Which then also means the first day of summer is not the longest day of the year, but that actually occurs in 2024 on November 3rd because we will fall back that hour from when we began Daylight Saving Time.
Yes, we will begin our season of Standard Time darkness just two days before we elect the President of the United States.
