A 16-year-old kid has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old inside a Killeen home back in September.

The Killeen Police Department's Homicide Unit recently presented their case to the Bell County District Attorney's Office, Juvenile Division and obtained a directive to apprehend. On Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at approximately 1:49 PM, the juvenile suspect was arrested and is currently in the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police have not released the suspect's name.

The teen is accused of having fatally shot 18-year-old Damien Xavier Rocha-Torres inside a home in the 2500 block of Camp Cooper Drive.

Police were dispatched to that home at approximately 1:40 AM Friday, September 25 after someone called 9-1-1 to report a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they found Rocha-Torres wounded and attempted life-saving first aid until paramedics arrived.

Emergency responders were unable to revive Rocha-Torres, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 AM. His body was taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for autopsy.

Witnesses told investigators that Rocha-Torres was inside a room of the home with known acquaintances when his family heard a loud noise. When they went to check on him, they found him wounded, and told investigators they'd seen the people Rocha-Torres was with flee through a window.

According to investigators, the suspect currently in custody "recklessly cause[d] the death of Rocha-Torres by shooting him with a deadly weapon", then tried to conceal the gun "with intent to impair its availability as evidence in any subsequent investigation".
